ST Engineering

Rula Malky, Senior Manager Corporate Communication at ST Engineering, was the driving force within the organization. She worked closely with the CorporateFitness.app team to deliver a well prepared and executed 2023 edition of the MOVEment challenge.

Problem Statement

Through ST Engineering MOVEment, an employee engagement initiative, employees across geographies are united by a single goal – to keep healthy, stay fit and do good. And we’re making it count, because in every step, stride and pedal, ST Engineering will donate a corresponding amount to charity.

Solution

ST Engineering was looking for a secure, reliable, and easy to use platform to allow their employees across different countries and business units to raise money for charity by simply moving more.

Key Success Factors

Ease of Use: One of the key success factors in every fitness challenge is to make it as easy as possible for participants to join the challenge. CorporateFitness.app offers different options to make this easy to use while at the same time respecting the privacy of the participants. Whether an organization decides to use Single Sign-On (SSO), sends out personal invites to all employees, or uses a generic and reusable join link and QR code, joining is as easy as 1-2-3.

Integrations: By using CorporateFitness.app for the MOVEment challenge, employees at ST Engineering were able to keep using their favorite wearables and fitness apps by connecting them with our app. In the app, all activities are automatically synced, and leaderboards are updated in real-time to reflect everyone’s activities.

Customization: As part of the onboarding process, we worked with the ST marketing team to prepare brand assets to customize the look and feel of the CorporateFitness.app platform. Providing a customized app environment allows users to feel connected to their fellow employees and to the larger organization, too.

Implementation Support: From inception through the entire duration of the challenge, the ST Engineering and CorporateFitness.app teams met regularly. Having a structured onboarding, execution, and post-event schedule allowed both parties to deliver on their promises and ultimately led to a high-quality result.

Clear goals and strong buy-in from all business units: Each of the 11 business units within ST Engineering were each encouraged to get as many people to participate as possible. “It was rewarding to see how staff from all our Business Units across the US, and their affiliates in Europe, were committed to the cause and to doing good.”, according to Rula Malky from ST Engineering.

Results

Close to 2,000 participants across 11 business units within ST Engineering participated in and enjoyed the 2023 MOVEment challenge. Together they contributed over 67,000 miles by doing more than 25 different types of activities. Of those activities, walking, running, and cycling were the most popular.

More healthy employees: We noticed an increase in engagement of 12% between start and the end of the challenge. This is a clear indication of the success of this type of challenge and how it encourages and helps participants to be more active.

Device Integration: Another clear result was the benefit of the many integrations the CorporateFitness.app platform offers. This allowed participants to keep using their favorite tracker or use the integrated GPS tracker in the app. Over 12 different integrations were used by the participants of the MOVEment challenge. Additionally, participants were able to use CorporateFitness.app without any issues.

Inter-company Competition: One of the central pillars of the MOVEment challenge was an inter-company competition between the different business units. This resulted in creating a sense of friendly competition, making it even more exciting for everyone involved.

Challenges and Lessons Learned

As with any project with many different device integrations, there are always a few users who have trouble connecting their device. Open communication channels and quick response times helped to get these connection issues resolved quickly. The CorporateFitness.app platform allows participants to backload their data, so even when a user had an issue connecting in the beginning, they were still able to participate without missing a mile of their hard work.

Feedback from a survey done by ST Engineering showed that participants had few issues using the CorporateFitness.app. Some participants faced issues because they did not wait for the app to connect to their local Wi-Fi before starting.Additionally, some participants had no connection due to their workplace restrictions. Rula summarizes her experiences with our team: “The response to any issues from the CorporateFitness.app provider was excellent and went above and beyond what was expected.”

Future Plans

One of the main drivers behind the success of the ST Engineering challenge was the ability to work together as a business unit and then try to beat the other business units by putting in more miles. Next year ST Engineering plans to will expand on this by adding an additional layer of teams where participants can create their own team within or across different business units and compare their performance with the other teams.

Conclusion

The 2023 edition of the ST Engineering MOVEment challenge was able to crush all expectations and enabled employees from ST Engineering across the EMEA and America regions to collectively raise $60,000 for the selected charity partner.
