Running a successful fitness challenge is more than just pressing the launch button. While detailed planning and good execution are important, how you approach feedback also has an important role in a truly successful challenge. By evaluating your challenge, gathering feedback, and making small changes throughout and after your corporate fitness challenge, you can ensure this challenge (and any future challenges) are truly the best they can be.
In this article, we’ll walk you through the 3 key strategies for evaluating and delivering a successful fitness challenge; namely, reviewing technical performance, gathering participant feedback, and implementing feedback and other changes for future challenges.
Reviewing Technical Performance
From pre-launch through to the end of your challenge, participants will need to access and use the app to track their progress. This is something that will come more naturally to some participants than to others. When reviewing the technical side of the challenge, ask yourself:
Did you provide information in a timely manner? From accessing the (web)app, to signing up, to inputting data – offering participants clear technical guides and instructions before the challenge begins is vital for ensuring a smooth experience. Ensuring that participants are prepared ahead of time helps avoid confusion and can enhance overall engagement and satisfaction during the event. To help you provide your participants with the right information at the right time, you can find email templates in our Communications Hub to use in your strategy.
Did you provide timely technical support ? Device integration with the app allows participants to easily sync their real-time data with the challenge. However, sometimes users have difficulty syncing devices and/or manually entering data. Whether it’s providing links to troubleshooting articles in your challenge communication or responding to incoming requests, it’s important to make sure that your participants have access to the technical support they might need during the challenge. Our technical support team is available to troubleshoot any issues you may come across, please see our Support Plans for more information.
Were participants engaged? A few indicators that will give insight into participants’ degree of engagement with the challenge are daily logins, daily or weekly goal completion rates, and whether the event feed was used to share updates or celebrate milestones. At any point during or after your challenge, you can generate activity reports to monitor and shift your participant engagement efforts. Monitoring these things throughout the challenge can provide insight on how to frame your communication around engagement, whereas looking at these details after the fact will allow you to pivot and make improvements for the next challenge.
Gathering Feedback
From beginning to end, collecting feedback is essential to understanding what participants enjoyed most about an event and what they found challenging. Feedback about challenges will often come more naturally as participants will reach out if/when something isn’t working. Additionally, intentionally gathering feedback during the event—a short poll or open feedback form—allows you to gain insight into both participants’ enjoyment and challenges.
Once the challenge is done, prompt participants to provide anonymous feedback with a a short survey. While shorter surveys (5-7 questions) will encourage more responses, a slightly longer survey (12 questions or less) will give you better insight into participants’ experience.
To help you gather valuable feedback from your participants, we’ve created a simple survey template that you can use for your own challenge (SURVEY BELOW).
Implementing Feedback and Other Changes for Future Challenges
After reviewing feedback, group it into categories like overall experience, challenges, and participant engagement. Then prioritize small, impactful changes:
- Clarify confusing challenge rules or goals.
- Consider different ways to engage participants.
- Adjust your communication plan to include clearer technical instructions.
Remember, continuous improvement is the key to success. Whether it’s addressing technical issues, enhancing participant engagement, or refining your communication, small adjustments can make a big difference. By implementing these strategies, you’ll set your next challenge up for even greater success and ensure that your participants stay motivated. Ready to launch your challenge?
